Minutes from the Monday, April 11, 2016 Meeting of Museums and Historic
Sites of Greater Cincinnati
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Anna Heran at the Lloyd Library
at 10:00 a.m. Attendance: Linda Magee, Anderson Township Historical
Society; Aashi Mital, Pivotal Solutions; Anna Heran, Lloyd Library and
Museum; Bill Dichtl, Heritage Village Museum; Terrie Puckett, Grailville;
Kathryn Gibbons, Friends of Harriet Beecher Stowe; Kathy Creighton, Butler
County Historical Society; Ed Creighton, Friends of White Water Shakers;
Craig Niemi, Cincinnati Observatory; and Nancy Yerian, Over-the-Rhine
Museum.
Committee Reports:
Aashi reported for the Membership Committee that the next meeting will be at
Grailville and the program will either be on board development or
collections management. The June meeting will be in the evening and will be
at the Glendale Historical Society. The Membership Committee has been
meeting regularly on the third Monday of the month.
Membership Committee is also working on a renewal and new member letter. It
was suggested that an invoice be sent to former members. Nancy moved and
Aashi seconded that every member be sent an invoice in 2017. Motion
carried.
Treasurer's Report:
MHS has $1,603.40 in the treasury. There were no outstanding bills or bills
paid during the month.

Historical Society; NKU; Over-The-Rhine Museum; Oxford Museum Association;
William Howard Taft House. If you think you have paid and are not on this
list, please let Ed know.
WW I Project
The following organizations have said they will have a WW I exhibit in 2017:
Lloyd Library; Heritage Village; Butler Co. Historical Society; Mid Pointe
Library System; Stowe House; Anderson Township; Observatory; and
Over-The-Rhine. By the August meeting, we must have a firm list as who will
be doing something along with your approximate dates, as MHS will develop a
brochure for distribution.
Site Reports
Linda reported that the Anderson Township Historical Society have their
school programs coming up soon. Their log house is open the 1st and 3rd
Sundays of each month from 1-4 p.m. starting in April.
Ed reported for MetroParks that their school programs are booked solid this
spring. He reported for Friends of White Water Shakers that there were 40
participants and 10 observers at their recent broom making class. He also
reported that he will be doing an open hearth cooking class for the
Switzerland County Historical Society in May.
Bill reported that Heritage Village will have an event, Spring in Early
Cincinnati, on April 23-24. Starting May 1 and the 1st Sundays of each month
through September will have hands on events in several of the buildings from
1-5 p.m. Admission is $3 per adult and $1 per child. The Elk Lick house is
in the process of being painted.
Terry reported that the DAR has grants available, but the organization has
to be sponsored by a DAR chapter. They like to focus on veterans and
history, and this may be a possible source for a grant to fund the WW I
brochure.
Kathryn reported that there will be a birthday party for Harriett Beecher
Stowe on June 12, and it will include a membership drive. They have almost
60 people at each of their spring programs. They are looking for volunteers
to do house tours and they have hired an operations manager. They are open
Friday-Sunday noon-4 p.m. Their volunteers regularly meet once a month and
she suggested a future MSH program on training volunteers.
Nancy reported that the OTR group held their quarterly lecture at the
Peasley Community Center. The group is looking at conducting a feasibility
study for funders and is also looking for a building for the museum.
Craig reported that Kelsey Sturgill has been hired at the Observatory. The
Region 8 meeting of the Ohio Local History Alliance went well and about 40
people attended. On April 30, in conjunction with NKU, they will have a
program on women in STEM.
Anna reported that the Lloyd's exhibit on woodcuts is open and includes rare
book wood cuts. The summer exhibit will be on the metamorphosis of insects.
She will be attending the Ohio Genealogical Society meeting with the Ohio
Library Council the end of April, and if you have anything specific in your
collections on genealogy, send it to Anna so she can have it on the table.
The next meeting of Museums and Historic Sites of Greater Cincinnati will be
at Grailville on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
