Thanks Adam:

And a stopping point for those Swiss Amish-Mennonites from France moving to northwest Ohio, in the Great Black Swamp, including many of my family members!

Thanks so much!

Hello All,

The MidPointe Library System is pleased to announce the launch of the Christian Augspurger Estate Packet of 1848 collection. This new digital collection represents the over 200 pages of documents related to the settling of Christian Augspurger’s estate upon his death in 1848.

Born in Ste. Marie-aux-Mine, Haut-Rhin, France, Christian Augspurger was an Amish immigrant who moved to Butler County in 1819, and established one of the first Amish communities in Ohio. Christian would come to own nearly 2,000 acres of land. The Augspurger farmstead and surrounding Amish community played a significant role in the migration of other Amish families, as it served as a stopping point for those moving west to Illinois and Iowa. Eventually, the community moved on from traditional Amish beliefs, and by the early 20^th century, the community had established itself as the Trenton Mennonite Church.

This project was a collaborative effort between the Library, the Friends of Chrisholm, and the Butler County Records Center and Archives. This project was made possible via grant monies received from the Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board.
