You are right Wendy. The really disappointing thing was that I was a
probationer and you would think the circuit stewards might therefore
have been extra solicitous for our welfare. They did eventually pay for
new carpet in two bedrooms, but at first we provided our own in the two
bedrooms where the carpets had to go immediately.

Can anyone beat dog poo all over the garden and a flea infested living
room carpet? That was in the olden days of 1985, but in 1999 our front
bedroom smelt of dog wee for ages. And yet in a couple of my manses
there were no pastoral records with lists of members to be seen.

A 3 manual organ. When we looked around the manse prior to moving, the
minister who was moving out showed us around and when he took us into
the small upstairs spare room, he said. "You won't mind if I leave this
here for now, will you?" We said would very much mind because we would
need the room. So he said okay, he would find some alternative storage.
When we moved I was looking forward to setting out my woodworking
equipment in the garage as a workshop. Opened the door to find the organ
in there. Dismantled, of course, So it's not in your way, is it?

From my two moves so far: A Doorstop, also called a large copy of a
Systematic Theology textbook from I think the 1950s; Christmas Cards
written by the last but one inhabitant but never sent and left in the
files; A Framed Circuit Plan from about 150 years ago that's only
readable by use of a Magnifying Glass; a letter about National Insurance
Contributions, dated some 16 years previous.
