Do you know anybody planning a Bonfire Night celebration, Wendy? I was
fortunate enough to have an open fireplace in our last manse, and in my final
winter there I slimmed down all my files to what I thought might be useful for
my successor and made the rest into handy firelighters.

The filing cabinet of my current manse is rammed solid with at least 3
minister’s paperwork – 99% of which I don’t need – wondering how and when to
tackle it and what to do about the fact that so much of it has names and
other identifying information on – my poor little shredder will never cope!
My instinct is to get rid of it all, but a tiny voice keeps saying there
‘may’ be something important in there.
While I was having an investigatory look I found a used cotton bud (!)
and a 2 fastener bra extender (let particularly the female reader understand
I have needed more than 2 fasteners since I was a teenager!).
I was also left a huge ancient bible with no particular historical value
and an A level Art portfolio.
In our previous manse there were 2 empty filing cabinets with no keys
clogging up the garage, but no lockable filing cabinet (or room for one other
than a spare bedroom) anywhere else in the house – study far too small to fit
one in).
God bless
