Thanks Arnold.
I tried to calculate how much we can expect from our claims, but unfortunately
the Plan of Allocation doesn't give enough information. It estimates 87,600
claimants, but doesn't give an estimated dollar amount per claim. (Where they
give amounts "per claim" they apparently mean per fitting and/or pipe.) They
seem to be targeting 50% reimbursement; however, at that rate only two fittings
and two pipes per claim would exhaust the fund, so I doubt we'll see anywhere
near that.

Mr. Duke-
Claims that have “no leaks” will be considered for payment at the end of the
claims period, which is January 09, 2020. We have included a Plan of Allocation
which outlines how claims are paid and what rate per repairs.

Subject: KITEC CLAIM FILING QUESTION
Tammie;
I have been in email contact with you June 24, ‘19
relating to potential claims from The Meridian a 66 unit condominium in Ottawa..
The Meridian is presently replacing Kitec plumbing in the individual units
at a total estimated cost of C$431,445. I have paid the condo corporation
C$7,722.22 on a special assessment as my apportionment of this cost.
Previously we had determined that The Meridian would file a claim
for the replacement of common area plumbing and that the 66 individual owners
would file
claims for their apportionment payments for the individual units.
The province of Ontario requires that condominiums carry insurance for
water damage.
Insurance Companies have refused to offer such coverage where Kitec plumbing
has been
installed. As a result The Corporation Management approved a complete
replacement of
all plumbing which started in May and continues.
Kitec Fund documentation indicates that priority will be given to claims
where damage
from leaks has occurred. My question is what priority would be given to a claim
such as The
Meridian’s? Would such claims be considered with those for leaking plumbing or
immediately
thereafter?
regards
Arnold Duke, Ottawa
