George R. Murray, Jr., CAP Public Affairs Officer Wicomico Composite Squadron SALISBURY, Md. -- Mr. David Young, Manager of the Fruitland Wal-Mart Supercenter Store, recently presented a $1,000 Wal-Mart Foundation Grant to the Civil Air Patrol Maryland Wing's Wicomico Composite Squadron for support of its cadet aerospace education program. On hand to accept the $1,000 check for the squadron 1st Lt. Robert Bryant, the squadron's Aerospace Education Officer, Maj. Kenneth Thom, squadron commander, and 1st Lt. David Argentieri, Deputy Commander for Seniors. The aerospace education program works through a number of methods to share the excitement and wonder of aviation including providing cadet orientation flights, classes on various flight subjects, and hands-on experiences. The proceeds from this grant will enable the Wicomico squadron's cadet CAP Rocketry Team to continue its preparation, including building rockets, for the 2009 Team America Rocketry Challenge to be held in The Plains, VA. For the third consecutive year the cadet Wicomico Squadron Rocketry Team will be the only Civil Air Patrol team throughout the nation to qualify for this contest. For more information about the Team America Rocketry Challenge, visit their website at www.rocketcontest.org. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to the nearly 22,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs. CAP has been performing missions for America for more than 66 years. There are more than 1,400 members of CAP in Maryland.
