The doctor said it looks good. Scott will start PT on his left hand tomorrow. Right now he can barely move his thumb but he will regain good range of motion (hopefully full range of motion) with time and PT. As for his leg, I spoke with his orthopedic doctor today and he said there is still too much swelling around the knee to operate on the leg. Plus, the wounds around his ankle are not healed sufficiently to scrub the leg for surgery. He also said, because of the passage of time, he may decide not to install plates and screws in his knee. They like to install the plates and screws in a knee fracture early on but, since it was not possible in Scott’s case, there may be no gain in doing it at this point. He said the x-rays show that the break at the knee is healing nicely but he will make the final determination regarding internal fixation after he gets Scott into surgery. So Scott will remain at Genesis until September 4th when they transport him back to University for his next out-patient pre-op appointment. If everything looks good, he will return to University for his next surgery on September 9th.
