Outbreak-Region 4
1) Dan Miller: Jim Hamilton has directed me to obtain information through you
from Redstone in Huntsville on protective measures for MARS members on the N1H1
virus. Specifically, he would like an electronic version of a brochure on
practical measures citizens can take to protect themselves. This brochure
should have the Redstone markings of endorsement or U.S. Army markings of
endorsement.
2) Please note Jim Hamilton's email regarding the use of his cell phone number
as he will be on the road for extended periods due to his job during this
situation.
3) For Incident Notification/EEI purposes the following situation exists at
this time:
" Reference (Bad Bug) Swine Flu A/N1H1 Outbreak-Region 4
a. Location: Alabama near Huntsville, The town of Madison, AL has two
unconfirmed cases but considers the evidence to be sufficient to close the
school where the students attend. This occurred on April 29, 2009.
b. EMS status throughout the state is not known at this time.
c. Local transportation status is not being assessed at this time.
d. General damage is not being assessed at this time.
e. Area utility is not being assessed at this time.

g. Information source/date and time: MARS Emergency Operations Officer Dan
Miller and WKRG News in Mobile, AL at 300200Z APRIL 2009. News on the
activation of bases in Alabama requesting MARS support from MARS Region 4
Director Jim Hamilton AAA4RD at 301328Z APRIL 2009.
h. ARMY bases throughout Alabama have been activated to alert status on the
aforementioned situation. Base food sales have been curtailed and information
disbursal is in progress to alert personnel on ways to prevent infection and
minimize impact from the virus. Base communications are supplementing their
intra-site traffic with ARMY MARS Winlink2000 email systems and have
established VHF local communications at one site.
