Hey divers!
Now - is a really important time to be involved in marine conservation, as
our very own natural wonder; the Great Barrier Reef, is under threat! The
Abbott Government is proposing to build coal ports along the east coast of
Australia which WILL cause a huge amount of damage to our fragile reef
ecosystems.
This is very scary, along with the already present threats to the marine
environment i.e. plastic pollution, fisheries and fishing practices.
So, please come along and listen to conservation experts from the
Australian Marine Consevation Society, Zoos Victoria, Monash University
with Dustin Marshall (Marine biologist) and from Australian Marine Mammal
Conservation Foundation, Adrian and his wife, Kate Charlton-Robb who
is famous for discovering a new species of dolphin (the Burrunan dolphin). They
will inform you on the pressing issues in marine conservation and what we
as civilians can do to help!
From 5:30 - 6:30pm we will be holding a BBQ (location will be announced
sooner to the event) along with a DJ, which will be free to members of
Monash Underwater Club (MONUC) and the Monash Biological Society, and a
gold coin donation for non-members.
Speeches will be from 6:30-9pm.
