Hi Priya,

I am writing to you to invite Scuba Divers Federation of Victoria to
take part in the Shellfish Restoration Project that is currently occurring
in Port Phillip Bay- an initiative by the Victorian State Government and
The Nature Conservancy.

The Native Flat Oyster (Ostrea angasi) reefs were once an important
feature of Port Phillip Bay, however, now sadly “functionally extinct”. As
a crucial step to improving the water quality, fishing and overall health
of the bay, a large-scale project to locate and restore these reefs is
currently underway.
As part of my Masters research to inform the next stage of the project I
will be conducting workshops to gather oral history information from
recreational fishers, divers and other Bay users that could have
information pertaining to the locations of these “lost” reefs.

We are particularly interested in information from between the early
1960’s to late 1990’s* so if you’re club has members that are likely to
be interested in participating it would be great if we could discuss** this
with you further. *

Workshops are scheduled to take place in June and July at various
locations in Geelong, Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsular. We kindly
ask that you distribute the briefing flyer attached to this email through
your club list and networks, and if you can refer us to people you think
might have information of these reefs then it would be great if you could
put us in touch.

I'll follow up with you next week, but if you have any questions or
would like to speak with me beforehand you can call me on *0431 909 437*.

I look forward to working with Scuba Divers Federation of Victoria, and
hearing from you soon.

Regards,
Matt Crawford
