Hey hey Hibernating Divers,
The weather and ocean are getting warmer – there is now no excuse not to get
wet!! And what better way to do so than joining us on the (second attempt) of
the epic annual ‘PIDA’ (Phillip Island Dive Adventure) trip on the 26th and
27th November.
The diving at Phillip Island is suitable for all levels will some shallower
reefs, to deeper reefs and The Pinnacle (an underwater pinnacle extending
from 5m to 40m deep with beautiful colour/ marine life). It also has the
amazing George Kermode shipwreck (best <30m deep in Victoria in my opinion),
potential for crays (season pending), small swim throughs/ bommies/ overhangs
and, well, pretty much anything to suit everyone.*
We stay at a pretty luxurious house on the Island complete with some kind of
Saturday night feast and Jacuzzi AND Sauna. Bear in mind, it’s not all play
and no work, as tanks always need filling, boats always need hauling,
launching and cleaning – but we all generally have a damn good time. Should
the weather be too bad to launch the boat, Jacuzzi/Sauna, beers, wine and
cheese are always a good fallback option. Speak to the July crew as to how
that one went....
Details:
When: Going 26th and 27th of Nov (Option to stay overnight on 25th & 26th Fri
& Sat night)
Where: Phillip Island…. Obviously
What: Mainly boat dives. Shore dives are a possibility, weather permitting.
Typically 2 dives each a day if everyone is keen
Type: Expect cold water…..hopefully sunny days. Shallow to deep dives as
described above
Costs: ~$30 per dive plus towing split (a couple of bucks extra if you don’t
have a boat license).
~$10-15 per night of accommodation depending on numbers (just to cover
cleaning costs/ utilities use)
Costs for food (bring your own breakkie/ lunch/ snacks – typically we split a
group dinner)
Costs for petrol to get down there – carpooling recommended and important to
minimise crowding at house
If you’re hiring gear from MONUC ~$40 for a kit (hire on a weekly
basis)
$5-ish for compressor use to fill tanks
*IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS
-You must have some kind of familiarity with cold(er) water diving and boat
diving (unless shore diving is a go – in which case you must be a very
competent swimmer).
-Divers must carry a Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) – there are some communal boat
ones to be used.
- We are a SOCIAL group of divers. Whilst we all help each other out/ buddy
up and watch out for one another, there is no formal dive master/instructor
set up to watch over you. You must be a certified & capable diver.
If unsure about any of this/ need more details, rah rah rah, don’t hesitate
to send me questions and let me know your diving experience J
For now please fill out the linked form below. This helps me know who’s
coming and gauge numbers/ planning. If for some reason you cancel, please let
me know ASAP.
