Thanks for this interesting Documentary. It is quite surprising what the Brits
pulled together in a short time!
I was interested to see photos of some German WW11 radios.
When I got started in ham radio in the 1950s in England there was lots of WW11
equipment in the “Army Surplus” shops.
American Collins gear, British receivers. I started my ham career with a tank
radio — WS 19 made in Canada. But I never saw a piece of German WW11 equipment.
How strange.
There was a rumor that the German equipment was so superior that the Allies,
when they examined it, were embarrassed by how good it was. It was said that
they rounded up the German stuff and ran tanks over it so no one would know.
That may be apocryphal …
I do know that during the war the Germans had invented the “acorn” tube which
was cute and small and used less filament power. The Allies had cumbersome and
heavy octal tubes that guzzled plenty of power.

This is a very interesting documentary done quite some time ago by the BBC
concerning the use of radio in WWII. Depressing subject matter of war but the
education about the technology is fascinating.
