Greetings, MARCoids and MARCites!
Once again we are approaching the first Thursday of the month. As you
all no doubt know, the first Thursday is designated for our "beginner
topics" class at the Murray Amateur Radio Club. Now, by beginner, we
don't just mean the newly licensed or those seeking their first
license... we mean that these topics are geared to giving you insight
into some of the cool things you can do with your license at any level.
With that said, the topic of this (and the next two "first Thursday"
classes) will be around HF radio. If you are a Technician class, you
have very limited privileges on the HF bands, but hopefully you will
still find this topic interesting and it will encourage you to upgrade.
These three classes will be presentations given by RATPAC presenters.
Yes, I realize that we have had mixed results with RATPAC presentations,
but I have previewed these and find them to be quite interesting.
This week's topic was presented to RATPAC on October 12th and is
entitled "Beginner's Guide to HF-
Week 1- HF Bands, Modes, Making Contacts & HF Activities". The
presentation was given by Anthony Luscre, K8ZT and Dennis Kidder, W6DQ.
If you are unable to attend the meeting in person, you can watch the
presentation on YouTube at https://youtu.be/cjZZjfKYPak. If you can,
please attend the meeting so that you can enjoy the usual kibitzing that
happens during these presentations... occasionally some very useful
nugget of information is disseminated and if you're not there you'll
miss out.
The meeting will begin promptly at 6:30 on Thursday, November 3rd at
Murray Fire Department Station #81, located at 4848 S Box Elder St (35
W). We will have a brief "check-in" net on our club repeater (223.96
MHz, PL of 103.5 Hz) prior to the meeting at 6:00. All times are in
Mountain Daylight Savings Time (MDT).
NOTE: I am still looking for someone to present on November 17th! If
you have a topic you would like to present to the club, please let me
know ASAP.
Hope to see you all at the meeting!
