This is your friendly reminder that we will be meeting at Murray Fire
Station #81 (located at 4848 S Box Elder St) TOMORROW, October 7th, 2021,
at 6:30 PM MDT. This is a "basic topics" meeting and I have planned to
have a round table discussion on what topics people would like to cover for
these basic topics meetings. If you don't have your license yet, please
come and let us know what things you want to learn about most. If you are
a new ham, please come and let us know what things you would like to learn
about to make the best use of your new license. If you are an "OM" (or old
[experienced] ham), please come and help the less experienced draw from
your font of knowledge and experience! If you don't care about any of
that, come anyway and wish me a happy birthday!
I am sorry to report that this meeting will NOT be available via Zoom. As
of yesterday, I am no longer employed at Forcepoint and no longer have
access to Forcepoint's Zoom account. I am hoping to be able to identify an
alternative solution soon.
We will have a pre-meeting "check-in" net on the Murray 1.25m repeater,
available on your VHF dial at 223.96 MHz with a PL tone of 103.5 Hz. The
offset on this band is -1.6 MHz. If you do not have a radio with the 1.25m
band, you may be able to borrow one from the club (Sam has a limited number
of working units available for check out). We also have a recommendation
to purchase the TYT TH-350 (available on Amazon at https://amzn.to/3FhmnK6
or eBay at https://www.ebay.com/itm/294120476780, both sites have it for
about $70). If you are looking for a mobile radio, I can personally
recommend the AnyTone AT-5888UV III (on eBay at
https://www.ebay.com/itm/294219563833 for about $280 including the head
separation kit... it doesn't appear to be available on Amazon at this
time... note, don't get the one without the "III" designation as that one
is only dual-band).
