*Guardianship*

Guardianship has recently reached the national stage with the highly
publicized battle of Britney Spears
<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/22/arts/music/britney-spears-conservatorship.html__;!!EErPFA7f--AJOw!XeEVwlUZq3NsXP7UvA5WWk65oMXVmpY3k1f9n25ijy3-75dJnC9_Tfi1hXUAvuT7Fb22rA$>
and issues surrounding her inability to exercise free choice. Many in the
disability community have been fighting similar battles.

Missouri News Service produced a radio news story calling for greater
accountability
<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.publicnewsservice.org/2021-10-27/disabilities/calls-for-greater-accountability-for-missourians-under-guardianship/a76248-1__;!!EErPFA7f--AJOw!XeEVwlUZq3NsXP7UvA5WWk65oMXVmpY3k1f9n25ijy3-75dJnC9_Tfi1hXUAvuR2C0IU_g$>
for Missourians under guardianship urging for, “…more attention to paid to
ensure that people with disabilities retain some of their rights.”

For more information, the MODDC has published this position statement on
guardianship
<https://moddcouncil.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/SES-Missouri-DD-Council-Guardianship-Paper-FINAL.pdf>.
Also, MO-WINGS
<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.mo-wings.org/__;!!EErPFA7f--AJOw!XeEVwlUZq3NsXP7UvA5WWk65oMXVmpY3k1f9n25ijy3-75dJnC9_Tfi1hXUAvuTLk8GZ2w$>
is an interdisciplinary network of guardianship stakeholders.

*Breaking News from the Whitehouse*

The Biden Administration released their framework for the Build Back Better
plan. In it, there are proposed improvements to Home and Community Based
Services, that are desperately needed. The proposed $150 Billion will:

   - “…permanently improve Medicaid coverage for home care services for
   seniors and people with disabilities, making the most transformative
   investment in access to home care in 40 years.”
   - “…improve the quality of caregiving jobs, which will, in turn, help to
   improve the quality of care provided to beneficiaries.”
