If it helps, I've read that kits and tools can be used as downtime activities,
research, or making stuff (if you wanted to make metal armour, you need time,
materials, proficiency, the tools and use of a forge for example) or to use as
a career to pay for your lifestyle between adventures.
So the book in the kit is essential as its part of the kit, otherwise you can't
''work'' or perform the downtime research you might want to do...

Good question. If one is playing a scholar than it seems IC to have a
reference book on hand, or perhaps one that your character is creating. I'm
afraid I'm not provided with any guidance in the 5e ruleset or the DMG about
what should go in such a book. What would you like to see in it?
With slings, I've got no guidance to keep the game RAW, so I'd propose that,
looking at wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sling_(weapon) that sling
bullets are most likely lead. However, if you come across a river and spend a
couple of hours there you would be able to find stones of the correct size and
weight. Does that seem like a reasonable take on the matter?

So the book of lore that comes in the Scholar’s pack will have no use
whatsoever, and I should just sell it, if only to save bulk? To be fair, the
players handbook doesn’t say it does anything, but I’m uncertain why anyone
would spend 25gp on it if that’s the case. It’s also 166% of the weight of a
spell book, so it’s a substantial old book (although both would be 1 L for the
purposes of the game).
As for sling bullets, It doesn’t say anything other than you can buy 20 bullets
for 4cp. The sling itself has the ammunition property, meaning you can recover
half expended ammunition after combat, time allowing.

Hi Tim,

Hi Peter (I assume it’s you who will be answering these),
If bringing a character over from Adventurer’s league, what are the rules in
terms of unspent treasure points? Are we able to convert them into GP and buy
whatever we require before heading to fools landing, with the unspent remaining
as cash? If so, is it 50GP per tier one treasure point?
PC- yes to all of the above
Are we still bound by the PHB+1 rule?
PC- after you arrive, no.
You say medium sized creatures require a gallon of water a day.
PC- the DMG says that.
A waterskin according to the PHB holds 4 pints (which google tells me is half a
gallon, assuming imperial measurements), so 2 water skins is one days worth of
water for a medium sized creature?
PC- yes. Ive converted water found into waterskins found for ease in play.
The Scholars kit includes a book of lore; would there be any existing lore on
the new world? If so, or even if not, what kinds of lore might be available?
PC- Lore is as per the website. Part of the setting is maniacs (well they just
survived a mage apocalypse) destroyed most lore: see the leveller heresy.
Clothes when worn, do they count towards bulk? Presumably clothes for a small
creature weigh less than the standard weight listed in the PHB?
PC- clothes do count, but check how much they weigh. Under a lb is negligible.
Sling bullets, do I need to buy them, or can they be foraged?
PC- Good question. What's the description in the PHB? Sling stones may be an
important resource!
That’s all (for now). Thanks,
Tim
