Dear all - good news (and a plea for help)!
Nisha and I are pleased to report that we now have the go-ahead from the
Council, and our planting sites are confirmed as:
- Furze Platt Road (A308) opposite Cranbrook Drive
- Bridge Gardens near Maidenhead Bridge
- Waterway bank opposite Maidenhead Library
- Nicholas Winton Garden in Oaken Grove Park
There is more good news: as well as Maidenhead Thames Rotary, we are hoping to ;
have some volunteers from Maidenhead Rotaract, who are keen to get involved as
well, to make this a truly "Rotary in Maidenhead" event.
We also joined a Zoom call with Meenu Westhead, the District Polio Champion, on
which we discussed some positive signs of the vaccination initiative continuing
in Afghanistan. Despite the challenges, there is a unique opportunity to further
gain ground against the polio virus, as there has been a low incidence both
there and in neighbouring Pakistan.
It is important that we keep up our efforts to raise awareness of Rotary's
involvement and the progress made to eradicate polio completely.
However, we still need volunteers to help us "paint the town purple" on 23rd
October. So far, we have the following:
- Renu & Rajan
- Neil & Sushi
- Nisha & Harrie
- RC Maidenhead Thames (approx. 10)
- Rotaract (number tbc)
If you would you like to join us for a couple of hours, please let Nisha or me
know, and add your name to the Meetup list here:
Nisha & Harrie.
