the whooshing sound you hear is the dashboard opening.

1. How do I open the dashboard?

exactly like the dock. It seems to me that this should not be the
case, I thought the dashboard had the weather widget and stuff on

3. When I go into Help and type in the search text field, all I
hear is "Mac help" repeated as I type. Why am I not hearing the
letters that I'm typing?
