Forgive my ignorance on this subject but how does one go about the
conversion to the newer iTunes and what does it get me?

I like iTunes a real lot as I find it to be the best media organizer
I've ever encountered. We added an Airport Express so I can play my
files flawlessly through our pretty good BOSE stereo without going
through all of the headaches that similar programs/hardware require on
Windows.

Is iTunes Plus a new version of the entire program or just file formats?

If it is a file format, how can I tell if I have any of the older
format as most of my iTunes purchases ave been fairly recent.
