It’s definitely possible that something happened with Safari on the last update
and it’s presenting differently.
I’ve got a few different options for copy and paste for scripture, the
lectionary we use is the narrative lectionary, sometimes a long passage will be
made up of blocks from chapters of a book, the narrative lectionary website
puts it together for you, which can be convenient, when the copy and paste
works.
Checking other sites for copy and paste to find out if it’s unique to this one
and its text reading web dialogue.
Ok, just checked a couple of sites, and each time I was bumped up to the start
of the page, so I would say that copying from a website using standard shift
pluse arrows in Safari isn’t working right now. When I get a chance I’ll check
out the Brave browser, hadn’t gone that route because Safari was still working
for me before this.

Ok, my first guess is that it is a Safari problem. You mite want to try
another browser. I use Brave when Safari does not work which is a lot now of
days. I do most of my c and p from River Bible great little program.

Yup, Catalina, up to date. I can’t remember when the update came out, but I
usually update right away. The website dialogue I’m working with is the
scripture I copy and paste into our church bulletin. This past week,
Thursday I think, the copy/paste didn’t work. I cant’ recall if it did or
didn’t work the week before, looking at the scripture I think I recall using
my text document bible not the website, but I cant’ recall if it was because
the website dialogue didn’t work, sometimes if it’s just a simple one I
don’t use the site.

I’ve had trouble with selecting text for copying from a website, can’t
pinpoint it to a recent update, but the issue is similar. I go to the
start of the section using VO arrows, take Quick Nav off and do shift down
arrow to select, and it does indeed jump me out of the text to somewhere
else. A couple of clarifying notes…
This techinique did work before, it is within the last two weeks that the
problem started.
I make sure to switch my rotor to words or characters because that caused
an issue in the past.
This problem occurs in a web reading dialogue, not a regular website page.
I dont’ exactly know what that is, but tha’ts what VO calls is when I
click the link. My wife says it’s like a pop up that goes away if you
scroll off of it.
I need to check the site anyways, so I’ll do that now to see if anything
works.
Ok, just did a few different sequences, and I was jumped out of the
dialogue every time.
I checked my cursor settings in VO Utilities, doesn’t look like anything
changed.
I tried switching reading order, live regions and always enable keyboard
commands. Yup, I know this shouldn’t effect anything, but I checked
anyways, nothing.
I’ll keep pondering, selecting text from a website seems like one of those
things that didn’t work back in the day, then did work great, now doesn't
work again.

I haven't noticed a problem like you describe, I use vo with arrows
rather than just arrows, habit, I also use quicknav links and headings to
move around web pages.

has anyone noticed with the lasst update to catalina trouble reviewing
web pages?
example:
go to a page, find any item to review, try moving with just the arrow
keys, you are suddenly somewhere else on the page.
this makes it impossible to check spelling, or select text for copying
elsewhere.
any ideas or fixes?
