All right, mr. Dive-in-and-take-the plunge! *smile*

So, how much time do I need to get proficient on this thing. When we travel
to visit the family, we end up making a *lot of calls. My husband has six
brothers and sisters, and planning even the most insignifcant event seems to
require at least 40 calls bakck and forth to different sibs. So, my concern
is that I'll get down there and have to answer and make calls, and not have
a clue how to do it. What do I need to know to be up and running when our
car pulls out of the driveway in four days.?

Cheers,

Donna

Hello Donna and all:

Good heavens (smile). Why wait (wink). Just think how much fun you will have
calling people from your Iphone over the holiday weekend. You can send your
first text message telling people that you wish they were here and you can
even take a snapshot of the surroundings ... camera works great. Captured my
first picture and now that picture is the photo that pops up when they call.
Not everyone will think that is useful or practical though I do (smile). The
picture came out pretty well ... impress your friends.

I am an NPR fan and my Niece already got her little hands around the Iphone
(smile). I was close by and she could not do more damage to the phone than I
could. Currently, I think she will enjoy the other phone better ... has
Mobile TV on it and she is a fan of the Cartoon network (smile).

OK, enough family history though I will finish by saying given that I can
listen to tunes while on a call my aversion to headphones is giving way.
This gadget just might cause changes in thinking (wink).

Run out and get one today ... who knows ... you buying one might put Keith
over the edge (smile). Keith, you are next (smile).

Good morning, Patrick,

Well, it's good to know I'm not the only one who doesn't like wearing
headphones. And I have to say, if my poor brain can handle the multitasking,
it'd be cool to listen to music while on a call. I think your messages have
been successful, the urge to run out and try it is growing stronger by the
moment. I imagine I'll have to succumb soon, but can't decide whether to do
it now, and be learning to use it while on our 4th of July pilgrimage to
visit the fam, or wait till after we get back.

BTW, re your niece, don't know if you're an NPR fan, but they had an amusing
segment on All Things Considered a few weeks back about people's kids,
nieces etc getting hold of their electronic toys. One of the stories
featured someone whose toddler niece did manage to get hold of the iphone. I
wouldn't recommend it! *smile*
Cheers,

Good morning Donna and all:

Beware I also have an aversion to wearing headphones. Though I must confess
I found myself on a call with the Ipod playing in the background. If the
sound quality of the Iphone's ipod was not so good I might have turned it
off. Instead, I found myself enjoying both the music and the call. Never
thought it would happen though it might happen again (smile).

Even if that does not appeal to you ... run out and try it. Once you pick it
up it is contagious (wink).

I guess I'm just going to have to try this out, it's really hard to picture!
*smile* But, it's good to year yours and Cheryl's assurances that this can
be done. I don't know why I have such an aversion to headphones, but I
really dislike wearing them, unless I'm listening to music or something like
that. And, we don't have a land line, so frequently I'll go running across
the house to wherever I happened to have left my phone. It's nice to just be
able to hit that left soft key and be on the call.

So, thanks for the feeddback, I will keep my enthusiasm for getting an
IPhone alive! :)
Best,
Donna

Good morning Donna and all:

Donna. You can relight your enthusiasm for getting an Iphone (smile). It is
not a requirement to have a head set on to answer or hang up from calls. You
can do both quite nicely without the headset. I had to get used to the
reality that moving the Iphone toggles the speaker phone. It was not an
annoyance just a little surprising at first (wink). My niece thought it was
pretty cool (smile). Now to keep her from running off with it. Is there an
app for that?

Hi all,

As one who doesn't yet have an iphone, the problem is this issue of
requiring a headset. I don't *want to *have to wear a head set to use this
phone. Apple really needs to address this. I was really hot about getting
the iphone, now I'm pulling back. If I can't answer and end a call unless
I'm wearing headphones, this isn't a phone I'm ever going to buy.
Best,
Donna

I thought that the 3GS came with a ear bud set with a mic on the cord.

My

nokia phone has this on the ear buds and it works great for answering

and

ending calls as well as talking handsfree.

Maybe it is under the accessories page that apple has under

apple.com/accessibility.

I've not checked out this sight yet but maybe it might have suggestions

for

accessibility devices that will make your IPhone experience even

better.

I don't want to put in those earbuds for every call or walk around

with the earbuds on all the time in case somebody calls me.

So if I can't hear voiceover say "answer" and "end call"

I just double tap until it answers or hangs up. Usually, though not

always, it will eventually hang up

anyway. A couple of times I haven't managed to answer till the third or

fourth ring but I haven't actually missed a call this way yet. What we

probably need is an independent way to turn up voiceover without having

to

get it to talk to turn it up. I wonder: if you had a real headset with

the

microphone built on instead of just the earbuds, is there an auto-

answer

setting? Or could you get a headset with an answer button on the

headset?

These might be options if you didn't mind wearing a headset all the

time,

though I think I'd rather not do this.
