Marty, technically you don't need to interact with the message, however this will depend on which sorts of methods you'd like to use to select / edit text. If you're using standard system commands to select and edit, no, you shouldn't need to interact with the message, if you find you can red it and navigate around in it already. However, if you'd like to use VO navigation and selection commands, if you don't interact first with the message, you may find that your selections aren't accurate. This can happen because the VO cursor is actually in a different place on the screen than your system cursor. I personally find that this can happen even if your cursors are tracking at times. So It can be a good idea to first interact in these cases.

HOpe this makes sense, and as usual, would love love love to hear others' thoughts on this…

Hi Cara, since the reply message is in an edit field, does one need to
interact with the message, or can somebody just down arrow to the part
of the message he would like to select, for example, the trimming of
the forwarded material at the beginning of a message? It may be
necessary to interact in order to do this, so just was wondering,
because it seems that, one only interacts with something if they can't
read it, such as a scroll area, or something like that.

Hi again Carla, let me go over the steps once more, as I feel like
I may not have been clear enough. <smile>

• Open a message you would like to trim

• press command r to reply to that message

• interact with the message body

• Use VO arrows to navigate down to where the actual message starts
that you'd like to keep

• press VO return which will start selecting text

• press VO shift home (this will move you to the top of your entire
note)

• press VO return once more to stop selecting text

• press command X to cut what you've just selected

• press command W

• press VO space on the save button in the dialogue that comes up

This should have your message saved in your drafts mailbox. If you

would, please do try these steps in order, exactly as above. If they
don't work please do get back with me and we'll try something else, K?…

Cara :)

okay, I now can interact with the message content and scroll down to
where I want to select. I press vo/return to select, then keep
arrowing down to the end of where I want to select. I hit command c
because for some reason the command x won't cooperate with me. I
stop interacting with the message area and go into my mailboxes
table I still can't find drafts because when I hit command s to save
I just hear a bell and no dialog comes up. So I try to paste into
the place I want the message to live and it works with the exception
of the fact that I cannot put in who sent the message in the first
place and the title won't go in the subject line. If I am being too
picky I will just settle for what I can get, but I would atleast
like to beable to put something in the subject line. I don't
necessarily need to keep up with who sent the mail directly to me,
but it would be nice. Of course I am saving the mail this way so
that I can forward it to others at a later date, but sometimes I go
back and read it just for fun!!Thank you in advance for any further
assistance, carla
