Good evening Stephanie. This answer assumes that voiceover is still on but for
some reason the speech is muting. Before trying this please first try pressing
command-f5 to turn voiceover off and then press command-f5 to turn it back
on.If that doesn't work then do the following.

Try the following.
1. Press Control-Option-F8 (function key 8) which will bring up the voiceover
utility.
2. Press the letter s for speech.
3. Press the tab key two times to bring focus to the check box for muting
speech.
4. press the spacebar and speech should return.
5. Press command-w to close the window.
