If it's showing 4 bars, then it's connecting to the wireless router, or you'd not have bars. If you can't connect to the net via the connection, then it's a configuration problem on your router. Does it require a password to let folks out on the net? Does it only allow certain ids to go out? What about your router's rules on ports, times, and connection types. As I said above, if the machine is reporting 4 bars, then it's connected, if it can't get out on the net, it's not the macbook's fault, it's the router. You might try connecting to the router via ethernet cable, and try that, if it works, then it's a wireless configuration issue with your router. Also, check the airport configuration in the network preferences, and see if it's reporting proper ip numbers. If it's got a self-assigned ip, but still has 4 bars, then something is truly screwy,, but that's not likely. Likely it's the router, not the macbook, but check all the settings anyhow.
