This is quite correct but it doesn't help if you want to mute only voiceover.
Also, this depends on whether you have the checkbox in System Preferences >
Keyboard checked or unchecked to use the function keys as standard keys. If you
have the box checked to use function keys as standard, you must use the fn key
with them to control sound in these ways. There are some keyboards that have
dedicated controls for controlling sound. My DAS mechanical keyboard is one of
these. However, this doesn't work if you want other sounds and music but want
to mute voiceover. If you are using a braille display with a keyboard, space-m
will serve as a toggle to mute/unmute voiceover.
