don't be confused with that explanation since the switch does not move up
and down it moves side to side.  now, with that in mind, just remember
holding the phone in your hand with the front facing you, when the switch is
twords the front, (the tuch screen) it is in the sound on mode, and when the
switch is twords the back, rear of the phone it is in the silent mode.

It is the mute and unmuted button. When in the down position, the ringer is
muted and all clicks and sounds.
