Hi, I have an iPod Touch 3rd generation. If I press the lock button at
night before going to sleep so that the unit is in standby, I lose virtually
no battery power over night. It may go from 100% to 97% but not much more
than that.

Well, I have tried that, and the battery drain continued, and the usage
continued to climb. Admittedly, I hadn't powered off the phone before I did
it, which is what I've currently done, so we'll see how that goes. But it
seems weird to me that powering off the phone should be necessary, if it's
VO. If that were the case, I'd expect that turning it off should have an
instant impact.

is putting such a drain on the battery then why not just turn voiceover off
when not in use for long periods of time, like when your asleep? If you
wake up to the same results then you know it's not voiceover. If battery
life is better, well, you now know to turn VO off when going to bed if you
choose not to charge your phone over night.
