Realizing that everyone has their own way of getting to the goal, as a fairly mac newbie, I have to say that David is right, at least for me. At least try it both ways. I'll bet you'll find that having the apps folder open at all times is, well, just plain fast. I command tab there, hit the first letter of the app I want, then tab if it's not the first app starting with that letter, and press command o. It takes literally seconds.

But you'll have to figure that out for yourself! <smile> Marcy

that is if you happen to be right there. my point is that if you have to restore your mac, it won't be right there and you'll have to create it again.

Now, on booting your mac, your apps folder can stay open all the time and even when you boot the mac, it will be right there.

On the second fact, I see your point. But on the first, how can you say
that? If I have to go to Apps, I have to open the apps menu, get to the Ap I want and open it. If I just put it on the desktop, it's right there when
I boot up, and all I have to do is open it.

It is a matter of fact though that it less work just to open the apps
folder and go to the app or put it in the doc and access it from there
and it is also a fact that if you have to restore your system you
don't have to worry about recreating the alias for an app.

Actually. it just depends on what you like. Making an alias isn't
difficult and some people like to have the things they use a lot right
on the desktop. It's totally a matter of personal preference.
