I haven’t been able to do this either. As best I can tell, you have
to listen to the message before you can delete it.

I have the opposite problem, does anyone know how to delete all
voice mails, played or not, in a single command? I don't get a
whole lot of casual calls on the iPhone's number and usually know
what a message says without listening but "Delete" button is dimmed
when I am on a umplayed one.
