I got it to work. On a hunch I went to the vo prefs and changed everything
to "default voice. I never noticed that option on the 5 months I've owned a
mac so i feel pretty dumb as the fix was pretty easy. It also works for
volume and everythign else! Yee!
Sorry all. I might do an adendum to my vo podcast I did way back in april to
show what I did in case anyone else new has these issues.
