[macvoiceover] atempting to use pages and numbers?

HI list,
I am just starting out with the mac, and I'm trying to get vo to read pages if
I need to type something. However, al i seem to get is a layout pallet. Is
there a way that I can get rid of this and have vo read a document like a
resume etc? Can I also expect vo to work well in keynote to design a
presentation?
