Marie, I’m even finding characters I never entered. For example, my phone number had a string of 9s after it, and there are no 9s in my phone number.

Josh, I’m sorry, but you’re just wrong. I’ve been doing this since 8 this morning. I can’t tell you how many times I have done *EXACTLY* what you described—flicking up and down to move through text-- only to find that the focus point was not just one, but often *several characters away from where I thought it was. If that’s Apple’s best, it’s not good enough for me.

When you switch the rotor to characters, are you flicking up and down instead of left and right? Left and right flicks will still move you from item to item on the screen. You need to switch to the up/down flicking to move through the text specifically. Practice in the Notes app to type and edit, which is what I did when I first got the phone. It really works quite well. Also, remember that VoiceOver is telling you where the insertion point is, and is not lying to you like Windows screen readers do. If you're a Mac user, it behaves the same way as the insertion point on the Mac. If not, remember that the insertion point is always between characters. If you are moving backward through the text with the upward flicking gesture, that places the insertion point to the left of the character you just heard. Moving forward with the downward flick places it to the right of the character you just heard.

HTH. Don't give up on your phone. It really works extremely well. :)

Hi all,

I am still having text editing issues. I have used the rotor, but still cannot move the insertion point one character at a time. If I make a mistake in an edit field, the only way I can seem to fix it is to delete the whole bloody thing, and start over. This is simply not acceptable. I just spent four hours trying to create my app store account, only to be told that I had timed out, and now have to start the whole ****ing process over. If there isn’t a faster way to deal with text entry, the iphone is going to have to go back.
Thanks for any suggestions, if you have them.
Best,
Donna
