Donna and others, I discovered something about the IPhone now that I am a proud owner of one and have put it through some paces. The editing of text was something that had frustrated me for about an hour and a half last night just trying to enter a 50 character text. In my frustration, I discovered something interesting about the IPhone's editing cursor. The cursor is bi-directional. What I mean by this is that you can be moving on the same character either to the left or to the right. Most people might say, "but that is old news." Cursors have been doing this since cursors have been invented. But on the IPhone, the direction the cursor is going will determine the character to be deleted or the position of the inserted character depending on which side of the character the cursor is. For example, if you are going to the left in a character string, the character that gets deleted is the one before it. If you are going to the right, the character that gets deleted is the one it is on top of. If you are inserting characters, the leftward direction of the cursor will place the inserted character to the left of the cursor position, and when moving to the right, the character will be inserted to the right. So it isn't the spot that the cursor is on that is critical, but the direction you are going. Examples: Flyfishing Now if I spell the word wrong, Flyjishing You could erase the 'j' by one of two ways: Moving your cursor to the left from the end, you could place your cursor on 'I' and press the delete key, or you could do this: Move your cursor to the left till you get to 'j' and then flick once downward to change the cursor's position, then press delete. Hope this makes sense. I learned this the very hard way. Probably it is written in some manual somewhere, but I am too lazy to spend hours looking for it. I'm travelling, so not able to consult docs on web. Could someone please tell me how to do this?
