Hmm, I just got through a session with this and it doesn't seem quite so streight forward but I'll keep plugging away at it.

To edit text you are editing, use the VoiceOver rotor...this is the dial-like control, to set VO to characters. You can then use the flick up or down to move through the text. The insertion point will announce the character it is passing over, just like on the Mac. So if you are flicking back through the text, the insertion point is to the left of the letter you last heard. If flicking forward, it will be to the right of the character you just heard. This is the same as VoiceOver on the Mac.
