OK, reboot and see if it has helped.
The next thing you cand do is download 'App Cleaner' and remove any
applications you never use from your applications folder. If you are not sure
then leave them or check them out, but as you don't have a lot of spare space
on your fairly small hard drive, this would be a good housekeeping practice.
Here is a link for app cleaner, plus a description of why it is best to use it
and which version for your particular OS. I am not sure what yours is, I know
it is not el kapitan as you still do disc permissions which el kapitan has
removed. Again you can find this out by going into the menus into apple then
'about this mac'.

You can delete them.
First you interact with the table and scroll to the item, then un interact
and arrow right to where it says 'delete this item', repeat this for each
item.

They could be contributing to your problem. They are starting up when you

the speech synthesis server.
All others I have deleted. What are the names of the applications ?

Yes, that was a long shot, and usually one or two keys become faulty,

What happens if you use a different voice ?

My keyboard getting tired? I have never heard of that.
It seems to only happen when I am either waking up my computer or
first turning it on. Lately it has been happening if I switch between
apps as well. It seems to take a while for boys over to Say anything.

Nicole,
While any of the things that TF is suggesting may be part or all
of the problem, I think it is worth mentioning that I have had
the same problem for years on a 2013 MBP. During that time I
have run Mavericks, Yosemite, & now El Capitan. And, from time
to time when I wake the machine up from sleeping, it just doesn’t
come back. I have found that waiting patiently does sometimes,
eventually, work. But, not always. In those cases, I have to do
a dreaded hard-shut-down & reboot the machine. Not an answer,
but at least you know that it’s not unheard of.

Hi,
I am using only Alex, I have only one app open at the time which
is usually mail and/or safari. When I first start the Mac there
are no apps open. I will try to turn on and off the voice
utility. But I'm not able to see when it comes up. Thanks for
the advice. Would any of this cause this?

Some thoughts....
Are you using only one voice and is it Alex ?
Open and then close voiceover utility. This may trigger a
refresh.
Close down your mac and fully detach the power supply, that is,
take the power cord out of the wall for 30 seconds.
Are you running a lot of Apps at thre same time, close them and
see if there is an improvement.

Hi list,
For the past couple days I have been noticing that when I
either wake my Mac or turn it on voiceover is not responsive.
It takes several minutes before it comes back on, and
sometimes it doesn't come back on. I have to restart it. Even
toggling it on and off it still does not help. Does anyone
know of anything I can do to correct this? Like I said, it
hasn't happened up until a couple days ago. Thank you for any
help.
