Good afternoon, Most screen readers just crash if they encounter a problem, or, a conflict, but, in most cases, voiceover will correct and restart. In mail this mostly happens at least for me when some one sends you a message in HTML rather than text. Try using command-option-p to change the message to text. HTH.
