Subject: [macvoiceover] VoiceOver gestures - why can't I get

Hi, folks. My iPhone arrived Friday. I'm totaly blind. I've ben using the Apple website and trying to work through simple stuff like making a phone call, checking and deleting voicemail, etc.

The one gesture I can't get to work for love nor money is the spelling out one letter at a time. I don't really need it yet, but as my hearing goes away and as I get more stuff on the screen, it's going to be helpful.

Okay, let's say I want it to spel out the word Phone.

1. I put a finger on phone and it voices "phone". I double tap on the screen to select it. But woopse, my phone icon just left and now I have a sub menu.

I also tried just having my finger on the phone icon and using the finger flick downward but that didn't seem to work either.

What am I doing wrong?
