I use the Blue Snowball USB microphone bought from the Apple online store.
It's kind of overkill for what I need and my iMac's built-in mic is fine.

I use a high end sony microphone which is normally used with MD recorders.
I said high end because it's the best microphone of this type that Sony
makes, but it's not actually a professional one or anything. It's powered
with batteries and it records reasonably well. Simpler microphones which
don't have any power source don't work, at least they didn't work for me.

As for me? Well I'll stick with my Logitech USB Desktop microphone,
they're about $40.00 each and for general use they're more than
acceptable, easy to set up and son on.
