Upgrading to snowleopard is simple enough. Especially since you have no desire to save what's already on the drive. Here's how it's done.

1. Make sure the computer is off.
2. Insert your boot dvd.
3. turn on the computer, and hold down the c key.
4. wait for the dvd to stop spinning.
5. press enter. This gets you past the language prompt, but it defaults to english. You could of course turn on voiceover before pressing enter, it does work, but it's probably better to wait.

6. wait for the dvd to stop spinning again.
7. press command-f5 (or if on a laptop, fn-command-f5) to turn on voiceover. 8. Follow the prompts to install the operating system as you normally would on installing any version of osx.

That's all there is to it.
Hope this helps.
