I don't have the headphones in the USB port; they're standard headphones that
use the 3.5mm jack or whatever that size is.

  Hi Sara,
I've noticed that if I use headphones in one USB port, set things the way I
want them and then change the USB port; the sound settings aren't preserved.
Could this be your problem?

    Hi Sara,

    This is very strange indeed.

In the sound window under the output tab I assume you selected your output
device in the table before interacting with the sliders?

David, Command+q probably would save the settings because the close button
only closes that particular window and not the app in question. Smile.

I wonder if command-q would work better but this is odd behaviour
indeed.

        Ok, here's what I do.

I goto the apple menu and enter on system prefs.

I vo around to the sounds button and vo space it.

I vo around to input or output or whichever I need and interact with the

sliders to change them. It works great.

I vo until I hear close and vo space to close the prefs.

All is great until I reboot...boom! All the sliders back to default.
Even

the sighted person can't see any save buttons in system prefs.
