First, let me say that unsubscribing is perfectly within your right, but I
think it would be really stupid! If you need help with the Mac, and VO, this
list, and the Mac Visionaries list, are the best places to go! Honestly, many
of the folks on here are far more qualified to answer your questions than I!
Second, I am currently running QuickTime Player Version 7.5 (149.5), and I
was able to open a '.mid' file, and it played, just fine. The file was a
Beethoven's Fifth ringtone from a friend's cell phone! I'm not sure what
issues you're having with MIDI files on your Mac, but QT should play them with
no trouble. Now, if you need something with more flexibility, then you'll need
to look at a different application. Go to http://www.versiontracker.com/,
enter "MIDI player" in the search box, make sure the popup is set to OS X,
click "Go", and see what you find. Also, you could just enter "MIDI", ".mid",
etc.
Also, check out Greg Carney's VoiceOver Compatibility List, and see what you
find there.
All these things are hit-and-miss, and trial-and-error. If you find
something that doesn't work, isn't VO-friendly, etc, move on to the next thing,
and eventually, if luck is with you, you'll "stumble" onto something which gets
'er done! When you find it - run with it! <grin!>

one. Not sure yet if I'll leave or not, will have to see.

Sheesh, if I'd known that a simple comment like googol is your friend
would envoke such a torrent, I'd have not bothered to post the url to help out.
I was simply saying that often times, you can find what you're looking
for on googol (or on your favorite search engine if googol isn't it) and that
the link posted in the email I provided was pulled from a googol search, not
from any archive I had stashed around here somewhere.
I'm puzzled as to the programmer reference though, I wasn't aware you
needed to be a programmer to use a search engine.
But, I digress.
Once again, it appears my simple straightforward approach has landed me
in hot water.
I'm only trying to help, but if you really don't want it, then just say
so, and I'll not bother to respond to any more of your posts.
And, as for the configuration, you never actually asked for it, your
response to my offer was a comment that if it's a terminal app, you're not a
terminal user, and I assumed that meant you didn't want to be bothered with
another command-line utility.
Apparently, this was the wrong conclusion based on the response here.
I'll get it to you in the next day or two, and in future, I'll try to be
more clear about what exactly it is I'm trying to state instead of allowing
others to draw their own conclusions from my statements.
I apologize for any problems I have/will/has/who knows/will cause to be
caused on this list. either now in the past, or in the future.
We're all different people, and what is clear to one is not so clear to
another, it's simple enough to ask for clarification, instead of jumping to
conclusions.
But all of that is neither here nor there, and this post is likely to be
deemed off topic, so I'll attempt to refrain from further replies on this
topic.

Google is your friend, but that particular page is very frustrating.

announced it had encountered a problem and needed to close with no
explanation. i forget what Mighty Midi did but it wasn't helpful.

midi finally worked somewhat and I actually found that further down
the
google page as a version tracker entry since I decided twice-bitten
by
that other link was enough for a while. . Google is your friend but
sometimes you also
need a huge amount of perseveerance too. since I'm going nowhere with
readiris at the moment, I decided to divert my frustration to the mid
problem.
