Likely a model thing then as mine is a g tech and a no-name or at least a name I don't know. the drive inside it is western digital but don't know the name of the enclosure. I think it might be the g-tech one. It's firewire and requires no power. I think the Mac sees it when it's switched off and maybe that caused the crash although it wasn't mounted. I don't know for sure but I think it happened once before to me so it's just a caution that having unnecessary peripherals plugged in even if not on could cause weird things during updates.

If you wish to take that risk, that's your risk. smile
I just mentioned it in case others wanted to be a little paranoid like I am.
It might have happened anyway regardless of what I had plugged in or not. The problem was I totally lost all access so had no way to tell if there was an error as no sighted people were around and VO just totally gave up.
Hope this helps? lol

Not meaning to be argumentative, but how do you know it was your external that caused the crash? Did you get an error message to that effect? You may be right that it happens with certain models. But I've been using lacie disks with my computers for a few years, often with both of them at once connected with no problem. I personally don't plan to start unplugging everything, but I imagine I'll feel differently if it ever happens to me.
