Not meaning to be argumentative, but how do you know it was your external that caused the crash? Did you get an error message to that effect? You may be right that it happens with certain models. But I've been using lacie disks with my computers for a few years, often with both of them at once connected with no problem. I personally don't plan to start unplugging everything, but I imagine I'll feel differently if it ever happens to me.
