Hello All:

First of all, I am the person Natalie asked about Apple Mail and Snow Leopard
for last week, the thing about using option-down arrow. I thank her for doing
that.

Let me tell you all what I'm doing, to preface several questions I have. We've
been referred a client by our state's rehabilitation agency who wants training
using VoiceOver on a Mac Book Pro running Snow Leopard. Basically, he got
referred to us because one of the top tech people for our agency told him he
hates the Mac and therefore, wouldn't train him on it.

Anyway, I've been boning up on my Mac and VoiceOver knowledge so I can train
this person. In our lab, we have an iMac.

Here are several things I've run into and questions.

We tried going into the Mail program and the client wanted to get to his most
recent message. As Natalie and others of you suggested, I pressed option-down
arrow and held it for a few seconds. I was focused on the Inbox table. I
tried option-down arrow both interacting and not interacting with the table.
It took me to some copy thing. Do I need to interact with the inbox table,
then tab to messages before using option-down arrow?

My second question involves the Pages program. I was showing my client how to
type documents in Pages. Here's where we ran into a problem, which also
happened to us when replying to an e-mail message. We could type stuff in OK,
but I can't figure out how to move through in Pages and mail replies to find
and make corrections. If I press left or right arrow by themselves, VoiceOver
speaks the previous or next word. The same thing happens when I press VO-left
arrow or VO-right arrow. The only way I can move one character at a time is
using vo-shift-left arrow and vo-shift-right arrow which are for reading
previous and next character, respectively. However, then, when I get to where
we want to make the correction and I press delete, something other than what
I'm trying to correct is deleted. I did interact with the edit text in Pages.
What am I doing wrong? I thought this was like Word or Notepad in that when I
used the arrow keys, I'd move one character at a time when interacting with
text.

Next, we typed in a google search but it wasn't clear to me how to find and
navigate through the search results. How do I do this?

Finally, are there any good "teach the teacher" type materials on how to do
stuff with VoiceOver on-line that I could access? I've been reading the
Getting Started guide and also listening to podcasts on Blind Cool Tech. Are
there any other materials available that folks would recommend, especially
those of you who have taught people how to do stuff with VoiceOver? Natalie's
a big help (smile), but I'm looking for other sources, too. I feel very
inadequate when trying to teach someone how to do VoiceOver stuff, since I
don't feel I know as much as I should.
