when you install the scanner and software, there will be preferences in the software.

All of what you say makes since. I did not see a scanner option in the system preferances, where would one find the scanner settings?

For blind people to get much use out of a scanner no matter the computing platform they'll need accessible optical character recognition software. That software installs on the computer and hooks up to your scanner and makes the rest possible. The next thing to do is visit http://www.versiontracker.com/ and http://www.macupdate.com/ with a list of search terms you'd like to try with reference to software and start doing searches. These two sites are the main locations to find software for apple computers that could be any of freeware; shareware, or commercial. It's then a matter of downloading software; installing software, and testing software for useability and function. Useability covers more than accessibility in addition how easy or difficult is the package to learn to use and how intuitive is the package designed get answered with useability tests. How intuitive a package is gets rated by asking yourself; self, if I were designing this package would I set the interface and functions up this way? If the answer is no, it'll be harder to learn and isn't intuitive.
