Hi Cheryl & all,

I've only had it working for a short time, so don't know how accurate the recognition will be with different types of materials, but I can say that what I've scanned so far has had really accurate results. And as I said in a previous post, it's really fast! Now, keep in mind that I had an extra 2 gigs of Ram put in my system, so have a total of 4 gigs, which will improve scanning and OCR times. After reading your message, I did a multipage scan just to see how well that would work. Of course, it was a bit slower than just scanning one page, but it was still quite fast. The pamphlet I scanned was 8 pages, and the results turned out great. When Read Iris opens, it lets you know that there are multiple pages in the file, and asks how many of the pages you wish to import. By default, it's set to all pages. I'm not sure why this dialogue comes up as it would seem silly to scan 8 pages and then ask for only 2 to be imported.

Cheryl, in Windows, I useed OpenBook, latest edition (8.02) and also OmniPage 17. I found that when something wouldn't scan well in OpenBook, sometimes OmniPage would do a better job. From what I see so far, I'd say that the VueScan/Read Iris combo does as good, if not a better job than OpenBook or OmniPage.

Now, as for how much I scan: well I don't scan books or anything like that.. well, once in a while if there's a book I can't get in any other format, I'll scan it, but I don't do a lot of that type of scanning. Mostly I scan my mail, magazines, agendas and so forth.

Cheryl, I hope this is helpful. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask away! As I scan more, I'llkeep you all up to date on my findings! <smile>

Hi Russell.

Congratulations on getting vuescan and readiris up and running!!!

Can you report on the quality of your scans with vuescan/readiris compared to other scanning methods you use. Having spent a lot of money on Abbyy Finereader in Windows, I'm reluctant to spend money again, especially since I think I'd want readiris corporate instead of the basic version. But if I can get a definite comparison indicating vuescan/readiris is truly equivalent, I might consider using some of my income tax refund next year to this end. Please indicate what solution you were using for scanning prior to vuescan and readiris, whether you did a lot of scanning and how the solutions compare in accuracy if you wouldn't mind.

Tia.
