Assuming you are using the mail app that came with the Mac, you can arrow down
tot he bottom of the message where you’ll see the name of the file attached to
the message. I usually just press VO space on the file name and a contextual
menu will pop up. You can choose to open the file or save it.

If you have the file, can’t you just attache it again to a second
message? Or is this a case of receiving an attachment you then want to send
on to another person? If that is the case, you can forward the original
message or save the attachment and then attach it to a new message.
