[macvoiceover] PDF OCR applications

Has anyone had success using either free or commercial OCR applications for
PDFs?
I receive PDF scans from our church administration and need to convert them,
and I'm also wondering about using an OCR conversion program for PDFs I scan in
using the native Image Capture app that comes with Mac OSX.
For the sake of comparison, I'm used to using Open Book on a Windows machine.
Thoughts?
