Hi

We have a BT Voyager ADSL modem bridged with a Belkin 54G Cable Router. The
system is working fine for Windows and Linux machines. I'm getting sighted
support soon to find the appropriate dialogs and I'll try the dollar.

When sighted support looked through the symbols that I printed into a text
document, he said that shifted 3 did give us a English pound symbol.

If you are using a password to log onto your network, you will need
the $ (dollar sign shift+4) before the password. When you press
shift +3, the VO will say pound, but that is the number symbol, not
the pound sterling sign. If you are using the actual hex number, like
04b5a3 etc, then you don't use the dollar sigh.
There is an important issue if you are using DSL. Some DSL modems
have an internal IP address which may well be ( and in many cases is)
the same as the router. It is easier to change the router's address.
What brand of router, and model do you have?
