Ian,
Thanks so much. I’ll start looking for one of these. Seems like a pretty good
work-around. I.E. Using the Talking Tuner App to get in the ball park & then
the Boss unit to stay there.
Thanks, again,
CJ

You bet. I don’t have anyone around who can read the model number, but I want
to say TU-8? The feature is pretty standard for them, just looked it up and
it’s called Accu-Pitch, so look for that. The unit I’ve got can be set to
standard guitar, standard bass, or chromatic. It doesn’t let you know the
direction to tune, flat or sharp, but when you hit the correct tuning it
gives a pretty distinct beep. I use the talking tuner app to tell which note
I’m closest to, and how close I am, then tune until I hear the beep, using
really small incriments on the pegs once the app tells me I’m close.
The talking tuner app is pretty accurate, but it only uses the IPhone
microphone, and if anyone else is playing or tuning nearby that slows the
process down a bit.
I leave the boss tuner set to chromatic because I’m using the app anyways,
and honestly I play bass because there’s only 4 strings after all. If I can’t
remember E A D G maybe I’ve got something else on my mind and shouldn’t be
playing guitar at that moment.
Cheers,
Ian

Ian,
Can you tell me a little more about that “beeping Boss Tuner?” I.E. Is it
just for bass or can it be used for guitar, as well? And if so, can you
give me the model number? I, also, use Talking Tuner. But sometimes, I’d
sure just like something on my pedal board to tune with.
Many thanks in advance,
CJ

A few years ago I asked a bunch of tuner app developers to build one, the
dude from Hot Paw came through. If you search for Hot Paw talking tuner
you’ll find it. You’ll need to know the notes you’re tuning to, as it’s a
chromatic tuner. I use it in conjunction with my Boss tuner that beeps when
it is in tune, as my bass plugs directly into that one. I figure when they
agree it’s as good as it gets. I keep my IPhone tuner set to 2 cents
threshold.
I can’t remember if the IPhone 6 has a regular headphone jack, when I used
the tuner with my 5s I used headphones so I could more easily hear the
results. If you use headphones it’s a good idea to have ones without a
microphone, or else make sure your guitar is close enough to the headset
mic to pick up the notes.
If you get the tuner and need more than the intuitive interface, let me
know and I’ll muddle through with you.
Cheers,
Ian

I’m running an iPone 6 with the latest IOS and I need to tune an acoustic
guitar. Can anyone suggest a guitar tuner that works with VO?
Thanks.
